“Boiling Point / Phoenix” explores pressure, transformation, and the point where something can no longer remain as it was.
The painting was built using layered texture gel and acrylic paint, with intense reds and oranges forming the main color palette. These warmer colors create a sense of heat and intensity, while deep blues and darker swirling forms interrupt the composition and create contrast.
I wanted the surface to feel almost molten, so the paint was applied thickly in multiple layers. Raised areas, ridges, and visible marks remain across the canvas rather than being smoothed out.
The texture is an important part of the work. As light moves across the surface, different areas of the painting become more or less visible, revealing details that aren’t immediately apparent from a distance.
The title refers to the idea of reaching a “boiling point” before transformation can occur. The phoenix represents what can emerge after that transformation. It’s not necessarily a return to what existed before, but something new.
Of course, there isn’t a single ‘right’ story on what you should see. Perhaps you see something totally different in this one. That’s part of the beauty of abstract art.
