Abstract Painting – The Chaos

Abstract painting by James Gale featuring a clouded blue background, symbolizing a calm mind, gradually overtaken by chaotic splashes of vibrant colors. Created using expressive hand-thrown paint, this artwork represents anxiety and disorder infiltrating thoughts. The contrast between the tranquil blue and encroaching chaos reflects an internal struggle between peace and overwhelming emotions.

There are no wrong answers regarding what one sees in abstract art. One person can see laughing faces, while another sees crying eyes. It’s one of the beauties of this art form.

Even though there is no wrong explanation, I’d love to take you through the thought process behind this abstract painting.

I started this piece when I was very anxious and felt like the world was just pure chaos. I wanted to portray and rid myself of this feeling, so I made this painting. To begin, I added a nice clouded blue layer to the canvas, representing my mind and thoughts.

Next, I quite literally threw paint with my bare hands to display the anxiety and, ultimately, the chaos in my mind. From all sides, colors of chaos infiltrate and bring disorder in my brain.

And as you can see, the chaos has almost entirely taken over my mind. Even in the deepest parts of my brain, the peaceful blue clouds are being muddled by the chaos leaking in.

That’s in short what I thought about when making the piece.

Thanks for reading!

I used acrylics on canvas for this one.
