Poem – The Gifted Curse

It was said I was gifted,
That life would be my thrill to chase,
Possibilities would surround me,
And I might change the course of the human race.

But no thrills came my way,
And I started to struggle,
With doing what’s normal,
With feeling okay.

I’m still not the prodigy
They said I could be.
Now I struggle with just existing,
Guess the pressure got to me.

Another day survived
Is simply not enough.
Expectations rose too high,
To be an ordinary guy.

It was said I was gifted,
But that blessing has turned.
Every day I don’t find my purpose,
The anti-hero yearns.

Perhaps the gifted are blessed,
But society
Ever so slowly
Turns them cursed.
